Macbook Pro 13' Late 2015. 256Gb SSD drive. El Capitan latest version 10.11.4. I powered the Macbook Pro on and it failed to boot. The progress bar with Apple Logo would be present but would terminate showing the 'no' symbol. I attempted to boot in Safe Mode - no go. I reset PRAM no help. I was able to access Disk Utility and Run first aid successfully. No help. I was unable to restore from two separate backups. The Utility would show me the backups however when I would go to the next screen and no backup would be available. Disk Utility shows the SSD. Can I erase the drive and download OS X to install? Thank you.

Unfortunately, for data that's already on the drive, it may be extremely difficult to securely delete it, depending on the SSD used in the MacBook Air. There maybe be a reset tool for the SSD from the manufacturer, but seeing how it's an Apple OEM specific part from a 3rd party vendor, it's probably going to be unlikely to exist. For the MacBook in particular it's a soldered SSD so Apple doesn't need to worry about replacement parts or end-user modifications, so this if anything is the safest way to roll out NVMe. OK folks,

I successfully upgraded my MBP late 2012 to 1TB SSD with the help of the community here. Thanks.

My old drive was a El CapitanWin 8.1 Bootcamp and worked pretty much flawlessly.

However my plan was to progressively transfer the files from the old Win 8.1 partition into the Win10 partition as I need them.

Here's the problem. Neither my Win10 OS or OSX recognise the old HDD Win8.1 partition. However they both recognise the old OSX partition.

Both operating systems(OSXWin10) was to formatInitialise the old HDD when it's plugged in via a USB enclosure.

As a test I swapped the old drive back into the MBP and it booted cleanly into Win8.1 so the partition is accessible. In fact I'm booted into it now as I type this message.

Windows Disk manager shows the partition as RAW rather than NTFS hence the desire to format. I'm loathe to start messing with partitioningrecovery tools given that I can access the drive albeit having to open the MBP but it is accessible.

Is there any reason why the original HDD can't be accessed like a normal external drive? Macbook lion download.

ATM my only option I'm looking at is a straight copy of ALL the files in the Windows 8.1 partition onto yet another drive so I can easily access the files.

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
